8 MPG. That's it. That's the improvement that automobile manufacturers need to produce in order to eliminate the need foreign oil. You think we can do that with some focus and some of the money going into the war on Iraq?

That's a great way to think about the problem. Oh how I wish this could happen, but we can all contribute by buying different cars :_)

The auto companies won't do this for us. The consumers need to drive it. I am doing so by moving to a Diesel rig which gets better mileage. Then running that on biodiesel which completely obviates the need for imports.
With regular gas rigs you can also start using Ethanol 85 (www.e85fuel.com) instead of gas. Most engines will run it and many manufacturers are starting to market their engines as comliant (even though they are now without any extra work).
