I have a question for the blogosphere --Is the world more fucked up today than it was 20 years ago?

every generation thinks that the world has gone to hell in a handbasket, and has a nostalgic yearning for the better and simpler times of yesteryear. as marcelo above says, the overall level of fucked-uped-ness is the same, but the details are different.

In 1986, global thermonuclear war and the annihilation of humanity was a chillingly real prospect. Today, we may have to deal with terrorism and global warming, but the survival of mankind itself is not at risk.
